Co-CEO GBA Holding GmbH for Pharmaceuticals and Environment
As of January 2018, Steffen Walter is Co-CEO of GBA Holding GmbH. He is responsible for the Pharmaceutical and Environmental Divisions and coordinates the implementation of strategies for growth and international expansion in those fields, as well as administration, purchasing, HR, and digitalization. Having graduated from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) with a degree in Business & Engineering (Dipl.-Wirtschaftsingenieur), he began his career as a managerial assistant at the German Mechanical Engineering Industry Association (VDMA). He has been involved in the laboratory and TIC business since 2001. His start as assistant to the board of directors at Institut Fresenius was followed by different positions of leadership within the SGS Group in Germany. In 2007 he gained responsibility for the operational and commercial activities concerning laboratories, inspection, and certifications in the fields of non-food, food, electrics & electronics, and automotive. Before changing to GBA Group, he served as General Manager and member of the European Management Board for Eurofins Food Division in Germany and Turkey for several years.
Co-CEO GBA Holding GmbH for Food and Expansion
Since February 2018, Mark Piekereit is Co-CEO of GBA Holding GmbH. In this role, his focus is on M&A activities of the company. Furthermore, the top-level responsibilities for GBA’s Food Division are in his charge. Mr. Piekereit graduated with a degree in Business and Business Computer Sciences. He has been involved in the TIC industry since 2003. Due to his extensive background in the testing field, he possesses profound technical expertise and wide-range experiences in organization and operation of laboratories.
Managing Director GBA Holding GmbH for Finance (CFO)
Kai Plinke has been a part of the management at the GBA Gesellschaft für Bioanalytik mbH since 2017. He possesses long-term experience in the role of CFO at renowned medium-sized companies. Before joining the GBA Group, he was the CFO of one of the leading European online printers, where he was responsible for managing the accounting, controlling, and personnel. In previous steps of his career, Mr. Plinke also worked in the fields of fashion, retail, financial services, and the food industry, where he held positions with responsibility for the commercial operations, but also in management and on supervisory boards, in Austria, Poland, Switzerland, and China. As CFO, he is responsible for the entire Finance Department of the GBA Group.
Dr. Roland Bernerth

Dr. Roland Bernerth has been in the company since 1992. Due to his immense expertise, he became a Managing Director of GBA Gesellschaft für Bioanalytik mbH in 2002. After successfully completed his doctorate at the University of Hamburg in 1992, Dr. Bernerth joined the GBA Group. From the beginning, he significantly contributed to shaping the Food Analysis Division, which he now manages in his position as a Managing Director.

Ralf Murzen has been the Managing Director at the GBA Group responsible for the Environmental Analysis Division since the year 2000. He graduated with a degree in Environmental Engineering and has been utilizing his extensive experience for the benefit of GBA since 1995. Mr. Murzen is responsible for the business operations in the field of environmental analysis. From 1986 to 1989, he worked for the company Ökolimna Gesellschaft für Ökologie und Gewässerkunde mbH as a department manager. Subsequently, he was a project leader in the fields of contaminated sites, soil, air, and water protection at the Institut für Gewässerschutz und Umgebungsüberwachung IGU, Kiel, from 1989 to 1995.

Dr. Elisabeth Lackner has been the Managing Director of ABF Pharmaceutical Services GmbH in Vienna since 2010. Since January 2017, in her role as Managing Director, Dr. Lackner has also been managing the sites of GBA Pharma, as well as ABF, the companies Phytos GmbH & Co. KG, LPU Labor für Pharma- und Umweltanalytik GmbH and Pharmacelsus GmbH. She studied Pharmacy and has a Ph.D. and Master’s Degree in Tumor Biology. Dr. Lackner began her career in the clinical research industry in 1999, gaining experience in the fields of foundational research, sales, marketing, business development, global operations, and managing a diverse array of projects. Before she began working for ABF, she had a leading managerial role at Roche Austria GmbH and was Head of Manufacturing for five years. Due to her working experience in several different areas of clinical research for CROs, pharmaceutical companies, and biotech firms, she enhances the GBA Pharma with her valuable skills and drive.
